Über 90% der Denkmäler in Metropolen sind Männern gewidmet. Die Arora #MakeUsVisible Kampagne, initiiert vom Kollektiv XR Ensemble und in erster Version veröffentlicht in New York und München, rückt die weiblichen Protagonistinnen unserer Geschichte in den Vordergrund. Weibliche Pionierinnen aus unterschiedlichsten Disziplinen werden mithilfe von Augmented Reality (AR) und ohne Download einer App der breiten Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht.
Die Iteration in Frankfurt am Main ist eine Kollaboration von medienkunstverein, XR Ensemble und Scavengar, gefördert von der Aventis Foundation.
Ziel ist die Reformation der Erinnerungskultur am Beispiel des Denkmals. Physische Orte der Erinnerung und des Gedenkens sind essenzielle Elemente im urbanen Raum. Umso absurder scheint es, dass diese in den Metropolen der Welt meist über 90 % männlichen Protagonisten unserer Zeitgeschichte gewidmet sind, somit wird das Bild unserer Historie sehr einseitig dargestellt. Wie können Geschichte und Kultur im Allgemeinen mit Hilfe von Technologie erlebbar gemacht werden? Physische Denkmäler werden visuell wahrgenommen, dennoch eröffnen diese selten einen Einblick in die Geschichten dahinter.
Im Rahmen von «Make Us Visible 2.0» möchten wir zukünftige Technologien, konkret Augmented Reality, nutzen, um das Leben weiblicher Pionierinnen und ihren gesellschaftlichen Beitrag erlebbar zu machen.
In Frankfurt am Main werden zwei AR-Erlebnisse präsentiert:
”Particalize” von Mohsen Hazrati für die Physikerin Lise Meitner (1878–1968) am Otto-Hahn-Denkmal und “Metamorphosis” von Dagmar Schürrer für die Entomologin und Naturforscherin Maria Sibylla Merian (1647– 1717) am Goethe-Denkmal.
Die AR-Artefakte sind an den physischen Ort gebunden. Sobald ihr euch an einem der Denkmäler befindet, öffnet ihr den jeweiligen Link auf dem Smartphone und startet so das Erlebnis!

Over 90% of monuments in major cities are dedicated to men. The Arora #MakeUsVisible campaign, initiated by the collective XR Ensemble and published in its first version in New York and Munich, brings the female protagonists of our history to the fore. Female pioneers from a wide range of disciplines are made accessible to the general public with the help of augmented reality (AR) and without downloading an app.
Iteration in Frankfurt am Main is a collaboration between medienkunstverein, XR Ensemble and Scavengar, funded by the Aventis Foundation.
The aim is the reformation of the culture of remembrance using the example of the memorial. Physical places of remembrance and commemoration are essential elements in urban space. It seems all the more absurd that in the world's metropolises, these are usually dedicated to over 90% male protagonists of our contemporary history, thus presenting a very one-sided picture of our history. How can history and culture in general be brought to life with the help of technology? Physical monuments are perceived visually, yet they rarely provide an insight into the stories behind them.
As part of "Make Us Visible 2.0", we want to use future technologies, specifically augmented reality, to bring the lives of female pioneers and their contribution to society to life.
Two AR experiences will be presented in Frankfurt am Main:
"Particalize" by Mohsen Hazrati for the physicist Lise Meitner (1878-1968) at the Otto Hahn monument and "Metamorphosis" by Dagmar Schürrer for the entomologist and naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian (1647- 1717) at the Goethe monument.
The AR artifacts are tied to the physical location. As soon as you are near one of the monuments, open the respective link on your smartphone to start the experience!
